An Ethical Public Health Practice: The moral and social characteristic
An ethical public health practice is the act of exhibiting ethical principles when making public health decisions or actions. A public health practice that my practicum site (Abigail Healthcare Diabetes Clinic) engages in is providing affordable and accessible services. The population that the clinic mainly serves are those from underserved communities who do not have health insurance or are working low-income jobs. This means these patients health goes unmanaged and eventually their health deteriorates to where the cost is too much to treat because of their financial situation or they suffer permanent health-related damages. The moral character of the practice is that the clinic understands this ethical dilemma and decided to create a program that addresses that public health issue (Morgan, 2021).
The social characteristics of the practice are that the clinic forms a bond with the patients that allows trust, transparency, and respect. Therefore, the patients are more willing to seek treatment regardless of their financial situation. This is because the clinic has resources and tools that were created to help those with financial situations not to fear seeking help. This means they get low or reduce price fees for treatments, medications, and consultation (Morgan, 2021).
