TOPIC: Using The Shock of the Old and A Short History of Nearly Everything to help provide the source material and the analysis tools, this assignment asks you to take three (3) different 20th century inventions or scientific discoveries, and evaluate their impact on civilization and society. For example, the book The Shock of the Old looks at how technological changes over time have impacted global societies, and how we can see the influence of those changes cascading into other areas beyond the initial technological change. Bill Bryson does something similar in his A Short History of Nearly Everything often looking more at scientific discoveries than directly at technology.
Without directly repeating anything discussed in The Shock of the Old, look at some of the changes Bryson discusses in his book, and then apply the analysis of impact and change on global society to the three subjects you have chosen to be the base of your paper. Make sure your paper is a use-centered account as suggested by Edgerton, not an innovation centered examination.
Paper Length: 10-12 pages, max. 15 pages.
