As Mildred’s Human Service Professional, the steps are taken with Mildred started first and foremost with building rapport. From there, we could branch out into finding ways to define her behavior in the moments. Through warm and welcoming sessions, Mildred could feel safe and calm within and helping her with techniques learned in de-escalation when Mildred feels the need to escalate due to stressors and anxiety. I used open and closed-ended questions while using reflection to provide Mildred with how I hear her speak on specific subjects, problems, and or just her life stories. She speaks through the memories that she and her husband had, whom she misses dearly and is having difficulty transitioning from becoming a widow. Mildred joined a group for widows, and her depression has been changing towards a more positive outcome because she has found friends within the group.
Mildred’s self-realization and her need to take her ownership back towards happiness have built a beginning foundation where we have sat down to implement her individualized care plan and what she wants to accomplish. At the same time, as her Human Service Professional, I help guide her with tools to help guide her within her pilgrimage towards her renewal within her capacity to function back into society at her pace. We re-adjust her goals and plan as we go as she figures out what does and is not working for her as she grows within her transition of growing more confident to be a widow and achieve the happiness she is striving for and wants. Mildred has been referred to specialists regarding her depression. Furthermore, she is involved with her community through the parks and recreation programs for activities outside her home. She enjoys groups and outings, from quick day trips to water aerobics.
