Discussion: Review of Current Healthcare Issues
If you were to ask 10 people what they believe to be the most significant issue facing healthcare today, you might get 10 different answers. Escalating costs? Regulation? Technology disruption?
These and many other topics are worthy of discussion. Not surprisingly, much has been said in the research, within the profession, and in the news about these topics. Whether they are issues of finance, quality, workload, or outcomes, there is no shortage of changes to be addressed.
In this Discussion, you examine a national healthcare issue and consider how that issue may impact your work setting. You also analyze how your organization has responded to this issue.
To Prepare:

· Reflect on the current national healthcare issue/stressor you selected and think about how this issue/stressor may be addressed in your work setting.

One of the national healthcare issue/stressor, I picked is Psychological Distress and Workplace Bullying Among Registered Nurses. Work place bullying is becoming more prominent in healthcare environment which causes problem for the organization to resolve like workplace violence; stress; anxiety; coping; retention, lateral aggression, bullying. Organizations with cultures attenuated with workplace bullying (WPB) behaviors create stressful environments for novice nurses who are more vulnerable to that abuse (Budin, Brewer, Chao, & Kovner, 2013). These occur due to increased workload for the mentor to precept the new nurse as the stressors increase the new nurse may feel powerlessness to address workplace bullying which later leads to psychological distress.
Estimates of the prevalence of WPB behaviors range from 27.3% to 31% for twice-weekly incidents for nurses and 21.3% for daily WPB for novice nurses
Work place bullying do have negative impact on the organization; some nurses leave the organizational unit by transferring within or exiting the organization (Berry et al., 2016), some leave the job while some become unhappy about their job or reduce turnover.
Organizations should implement a zero- tolerance policy (Cleary, Hunt, Walter, & Robertson, 2009) toward workplace bullying and provide education and counseling to employees, victims, and perpetrators (Center for American Nurses, 2008). Moreover, they should develop bullying prevention programs including strategies for recognizing and addressing bullying behaviors.
